Keeping
"Hiatus" in Perspective…
GM Announces intent to discontinue Camaro/Firebird after 2002 model.
September 25, 2001
GM announced plans to close the Ste. Thérèse, Quebec plant in the fall
of 2002 and to discontinue the Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird as
of the 2002 model.
Now that the bad
news is officially on the table, lets get it into perspective. In the
Press Release GM used the word "Hiatus" and was very clear
about the demise of the 1,065 employees who currently work in the plant,
going so far as to provide income to employees for up to three years
after closing the plant.
Translation:
There is a clear opportunity for Car enthusiasts worldwide to unite and
provide GM the feedback to bring back the Camaro! It is important that
we unite in this cause and speak with one voice. Worldwide Camaro
Association is currently developing some tools to accomplish this
important task, and details will follow soon. In the mean time, please
be strong.
